Bank Street Improvements at SUNY
Geneseo |
Recognizing Bank Street’s declining condition and its importance as a main pedestrian artery between the SUNY Geneseo campus and the Village of Geneseo, SUNY Geneseo recently hired Bayer Associates to design improvements to the streetscape. The project plans called for the creation of a pronounced gateway into the campus from Bank Street, new ornamental pavements, lighting, signage, and extensive planting. The gateway took the form of a new 8’ high brick wall and piers topped with ornamental iron work. The project also involved a realignment and shortening of the road at its western terminus to create a generous plaza space adjacent to the gateway. Construction of this project was completed in the fall of 2006 and has dramatically transformed this corridor from a poorly defined “back alley” to a pleasing village streetscape. |
